Chapter 8: Ancient tongues

It was then that Gaia spoke up, "Not all of us should go. I think it would be best if Tovias and Virbriel (that is, Gabriel / Virum) should go together to look through the tome. The rest of us can stay here and wait for their return."

I turned to the group of Tovias Faraday, Stirling the Troll, Gaia Vedea, Randalf, Wanda Spellworthy, and Snifflewort and state, "That sounds like a good plan. That way the Draco's tome does not have too many people touching it & potentially damaging it. Tovias, would you accompany me? Or have you other business you must be off to do?"

Tovias replied, "Certainly I'll join you. You've been nothing but friendly and I'm glad to help."

Leaving the rest of the magic users at the Lunar Tribe encampment, Tovias and I went to the main vardo where the Ibis sisters kept the tome in safekeeping.

"Good day, ladies. Might I borrow the Draco tome? Tovias saw something in it that might help me become my full self."

"Certainly. You both are Lightbringers, and I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to view the tome, " Deirdre replied.

"Just make sure you stay where we can keep an eye on you, " Andra stated emphatically.

"Fear not, sisters. We know the rules of the tome, " Tovias answered them.

Moving to a nearby table, Tovias and I sat. As the tome had no index or other way of easily finding information, we had to start at the beginning and go page by page to see if we could find the page Tovias mentioned regarding capturing a soul.

Quickly reading through the book, we eventually found the page that Tovias thought he had seen. Unfortunately, much of it was in a language neither he nor I had ever seen.

"Well, this isn't much good, is it?" I asked, turning to face Tovias.

"No, definitely not. You have no idea what's written here, and neither do I, other than the random fragments of English scattered about. Whatever language this is, it doesn't seem human somehow. Remember, this is the Draco tome, after all."

"That's true. Are you suggesting this is some sort of dragon language?"

"Perhaps it is. But who knows?

"Hmm. I'm not sure, but maybe Maia can help. She seems to have a connection to dragons, so maybe she can interpret for us. Remember, she did activate that amulet you had, sending you flying into a tree, after all." I chuckled, remembering the incident.

"Alright, alright. Let's go find her."

Chapter 7: Best-laid plans

Wanda, Snifflewort, Stirling and I made our way to where Gaia and Randalf were sitting and joined them.

"Ah, excellent well, Virum. I see you found Wanda and Randalf, but where is Will? And wherefore are Snifflewort and Stirling here?"

"I spoke to Will. He may still be in the fairy glade and might be trying to get them to help still. Snifflewort, Stirling and Wanda were sharing cookies and were still together when I found them. I thought that perhaps Snifflewort, also being a magic user could help, and Stirling wanted to help too. He had an idea of smashing the amber, which I don't think will work, but it might."

"Yea, yea, smash!" Stirling interrupted.

The rest of us chuckled.

"Hey, Stirling," I asked. "Can you do something for me? I need you to bring someone here that I forgot to talk to."

"Uh, ok. Who?"

"Tovias Faraday, the mage champion. You know who he is, right? He usually wears a grey cloak."

"Yea, yea, yea. I go get him." Stirling turned, making his way to the Order of the Sun encampment.

"And, Stirling?" I called out after him. "Be gentle. Don't drag him back here unless you have to."

Turning back to the others, I asked Gaia, "So, have you come up with any ideas as to how Gabriel's mind, spirit and soul can be taken out of the amber and put back into his body, which is now mine?"

"Well, Randalf and I have one idea, but it requires a lot of magic, and it might not even work. If we knew how Gabriel had put himself into the amber, it would be easier to know how to get him out."

"Ah yes. What is your plan, then?" I asked, eager to hear it.

Randalf replied in his steady tone, "First, we must place the amber in an acid solution to soften it. This should make it easier for Gabriel to get out. Secondly, we must chant a spell in order to call Gabriel out. Thirdly, we must have you hold the amber and hopefully Gabriel will move out of the amber and back into your body. However, as Gaia mentioned, this will take a lot of magic. What she didn't mention is that if it doesn't work, Gabriel might be stuck forever."

"If that's the case, perhaps we should wait until Tovias arrives. As he is Mage champion, perhaps he'll have something that will help."
